Africa-Press – Ghana. Reigning Ghana Premier League Champions Bibiani Gold Stars and MTN FA Cup holders Asante Kotoko will begin their campaign in the 2025-26 CAF Competitions this weekend.
Asante Kotoko return to the Confederations Cup after winning the last year’s MTN FA Cup, as they are set to host Kwara United at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, September 21, 2025.
The Porcupine Warriors, following their impressive 1-0 win against Berekum Chelsea in the league opener, would be booming with confidence ahead of Sunday’s clash.
Kotoko would be hoping to make the group stages of this year’s CAF Confederation Cup, having done so six years ago.
Ahead of the match, Kotoko coach Karim Zito says they are vigorously preparing for the match and urged the players to approach the Kwara match like they did for Berekum Chelsea.
“We are fighting to put things together. We just got back from pre-season, and we tested our strength against Berekum Chelsea. So we are here to polish what went wrong in that game before we face Nwara.”
The match against Kwara United would kick off at 3pm on Sunday.
On the other hand, Bibiani Gold Stars face a stern task against Algerian side JS Kabylie in the first-leg preliminary encounter at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday, September 20, 2025.
The Ghanaian champions who are making their debut in Africa’s elite club competition would be aiming for a strong start against JS Kabylie, who have massive experience in the competition.
Gold Stars enter the tie as massive underdogs, especially playing away from their favourite home ground, Duns Park, which was not approved by CAF for the match.
However, the Miners would take inspiration from their good start in the 2025-26 Ghana Premier League after defeating Bechem United 2-1 at the Duns Park.
Coach Frimpong Manso, ahead of the match, has stated how difficult it is combining the league with African match duties, but the win against Bechem United would give a massive boost.
He also said the support of fans would be crucial to their success this season and urged massive support for Saturday’s crucial encounter against Kabylie. The match would start at 3:00 pm on Saturday.
