Africa-Press – Ghana. A call has been made for leaders to prioritize youth empowerment and promote responsible governance in Ghana.
Mr Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader, who made the call, emphasized the importance of unity, leadership, and collective action in shaping the country’s future.
“We must work together to build a brighter future for Ghana,” he said.
Mr Afenyo-Markin made the remarks on Friday when he inaugurated the Young Commons Forum (YCF), the University of Education Winneba Chapter, in the Central Region.
Under the theme “Empowering the Young Generation for Leadership and Development,” it had the goal of inspiring young people to recognize their potential, make a positive impact, challenge the status quo, innovate, and believe in themselves.
Mr Afenyo-Markin, also the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Effutu said: “This requires embracing the greatness of our country and its people and taking ownership of our future through collective action and leadership.”
He also stressed the need for accountable governance and transparency in government, saying, “Leaders must be held accountable for their actions and policies, and citizens must demand better, understand the needs of their people, and prioritize their welfare.”
The day’s summit also highlighted the importance of innovation and progress among the youth in driving development and growth in Ghana.
“You must be open to new ideas and approaches and work together to promote innovation and entrepreneurship in the country,” he urged.
“The time has come for the youth to take ownership of their future and shape it through collective action and leadership. Let us work together to build a Ghana that is prosperous, peaceful, and just for all its citizens,” he advised.
Mr Emmanuel Osei, President, YCF, Winneba Chapter, called for collaboration and implementation strategies that would bring the vision to life.
He also highlighted the need for different stakeholders, including politicians, economists, and innovators, to work together with the youth to achieve a common goal.
“It is important to put policies and plans into action to ensure that the desired outcomes are achieved for development and progress,” he said.
Mr Osei expressed gratitude to the Minority Leader for his efforts that valued the importance of community and partnership in achieving a shared vision.
