Africa-Press – Ghana. The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament has successfully recovered over GH¢12.9 billion in misappropriated public funds, Madam Abena Osei-Asare, the Chairperson, has revealed.

This success she attributed to the Committee’s close collaboration with the Auditor-General’s office.

Addressing the media after a three-day sitting in Parliament House, she said: “What we are doing is yielding positive results… We have been able to retrieve GH¢12.9 billion. There is a whole report on that, which we will be sharing with the public at the right time.” “Accountability remains a key priority for the Committee,” she added.

PAC on Monday, September 29, reconvened to continue its public hearings to review the Auditor-General’s report for the year ending December 31, 2024.

The Committee, from Monday to Wednesday, October 1, scrutinized various government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) for alleged financial irregularities.

Among the ministries that appeared before the Committee were the Ghana Statistical Service, the Ministry of Health, the Ghana Health Service, the Ministry for the Interior, the Ministry of Justice and the Attorney General’s Department, and the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs.

The others were the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture, the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Art, the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry, the Ministry of Environment, Science, and Technology, and the Ministry of Transport.

The PAC’s scrutiny of the Auditor-General’s report highlighted the Committee’s commitment to ensuring accountability and transparency in government financial dealings. The Committee has adjourned to Monday, October 27, 2025.
