Africa-Press – Ghana. Dr Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Wa Central Constituency, has reiterated his commitment to fulfilling the promises made to enhance the lives and livelihoods of his constituents, which contributed to his victory in the 2024 general election.
He said he would continue to leverage his influence as an MP to positively impact the lives of the people in his constituency, “to ensure they benefit from me because they made me who I am today.”
Dr. Pelpuo, who also serves as the Minister of Labour, Jobs and Employment, made this known in Wa during a press soiree where he outlined his achievements in the constituency since assuming office in January 2025, as well as his planned interventions before the end of the year.
Outlining his accomplishments within the period under review, the MP said he had provided financial support worth about GHS52,000.00 to 21 petty traders and extended GHS73,000.00 in support of the sports and entertainment industry in the municipality.
On education, Dr. Pelpuo disclosed that he had offered partial or full financial assistance amounting to GHS335,611.13 to 150 tertiary students between January and September 2025, facilitated GETFund scholarships for eleven university students, and organised a mock examination for candidates of the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
He further noted that he had facilitated the construction of a three-unit classroom block for the Wa Model School through the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) and procured desktop computers and cadet uniforms for Wa Senior High Technical School and Wa Islamic Girls Senior High School, respectively.
Other interventions included the drilling of four boreholes for four communities and rehabilitation of 13 boreholes at costs of GHS100,000.00 and GHS16,600.00 respectively.
Others included connecting some communities to the national grid and facilitating employment opportunities for constituents.
The MP stressed that these achievements, within less than a year in office, demonstrated his commitment to fulfilling his pledges to the electorate.
Looking ahead to the end of 2025, Dr. Pelpuo announced plans to complete maternity units at Sokpayiri and Dokpong Health Centres, support the completion of a maternity block at Duori, and construct a Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound at Nyugluu.
He also revealed plans to help secure employment for more constituents and facilitate electrification projects in the Kpaankole, Mojong, Tampieni, Seyiri, Bosoyiri, and Doraayiri communities.
Dr. Pelpuo assured the people of the construction of the Danko-Sing-Boli stretch, construction of new inner-city roads, and the institution of an award scheme to honour best-performing professionals in the Wa Municipality.
During the interaction, journalists raised questions on security in the municipality following recent serial killings, and the completion of the affordable housing project in Wa.
Responding to a question on the proposal by the previous government to dualise the Bamahu-Airport Road and construct a bypass to divert heavy trucks from the Wa township, the MP said they were laudable proposals, and the John Mahama-led government was considering executing them.
