Africa-Press – Ghana. The Ghana Immigration Service has condemned the violent attack on two of its officers while on duty at the Gbintri Inland Checkpoint in the East Mamprusi Municipality, North East Region.

A statement signed by Maud Anima Quainoo, Deputy Commissioner of Immigration and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra said the tragic incident occurred at 01.00hrs on October 3, 2025, resulting in the loss of Assistant Immigration Control Officer II (AICO II) Rafiq Mohammad whilst his colleague, AICO II Opong Daniel, suffered severe gunshot wounds and remains in critical condition at Baptist Medical Center (BMC) in Nalerigu.

A joint team from the Police Service and the Immigration Service in the North East Region, swiftly responded to the incident, ensuring the safety of the injured officer and launching a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances of this heinous crime.

The Comptroller General of Immigration (CGI) has also extended heartfelt condolences to the family of the fallen officer, honouring his ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

“The CGI pledges unwavering commitment to ensuring that those responsible are swiftly identified and apprehended.

“The Ghana Immigration Service remains steadfast in its mission to safeguard Ghana’s territorial integrity, emphasizing that this critical responsibility depends on continued collaboration with the citizens whose security we are entrusted to protect.
