Africa-Press – Ghana. Mr Joseph Addae Akwaboah, the Bono Regional Minister, has called for concerted and decisive approaches in the nationwide fight against corruption.
He urged stakeholders and institutions to uphold integrity and transparency, saying fighting the menace remained collective responsibility that requires the active participation of all.
Mr Akwaboah made the call in a speech read on his behalf at the Bono Regional Stakeholders forum on the National Ethics and Anti-Corruption Action Plan (NEACAP) 2026-2030 in Sunyani.
Attended by Heads of Departments and Agencies, and some stakeholders, the Bono Regional Coordinating Council organised the forum, aimed at sharing experiences, deliberating and proffering realistic solutions to the fight against corruption.
Mr. Akwaboah regretted that corruption impeded national development efforts, good governance and social cohesion, saying “Ghanaians need to foster an environment where integrity thrives, and corruption is minimized”.
He said: “Corruption has become a cancer that eats away the nation’s soul, distorting governance, eroding public trust, weakening institutions and slowing the pace of accelerated national development.”
The canker undermines justice, accountability, and social cohesion in homes, schools, communities, and workplaces, saying the effects of corruption were far-reaching, touching every aspect of human life.
Mr Akwaboah stressed that the government had renewed its commitment to combating corruption through the NEACAP 2026-2030, a strategic initiative aimed at promoting integrity, accountability, and good governance.
The NEACAP 2026-2030 is designed to be impactful and transformative, leaving a legacy of integrity generations yet unborn.
Mr Akwaboah said the plan provided a clear and practical strategy and a renewed energy and courage to champion ethics and integrity wherever services were rendered, adding that it also focused on strengthening institutions, providing clear oversight, and ensuring that the fight against corruption was prioritized.
He explained that the fight against corruption remained pivotal in the nation’s pursuit of development.
Mr Edem Senanu, the Chairperson of the African Union Adversity Board Against Corruption (AUABC) stressed the need for the nation to imbibe a sense of honesty in its children, calling for the reintroduction of civic, religious and moral education in schools.
