Africa-Press – Ghana. Mr Kofi Iddie Adams, the Minister of Sports and Recreation, has praised the National Football League (NFL) and the Ghana American Football Federation for boosting grassroots development of flag football after the country hosted its fourth annual NFL FLAG Championship.

The event, held at the University of Ghana Rugby Stadium over the weekend, featured Under-12 co-ed and Under-14 boys’ and girls’ divisions.

Nima 1 Basic School clinched titles in the U-12 co-ed and U-14 girls’ categories, while St. Kizito Basic School won the U-14 boys’ division.

The tournament is part of a wider initiative to grow flag football in Ghana, which has reached more than 30 schools since 2022.

Mr Adams commended the NFL delegation and federation officials for adding teacher training and creating a sustainable talent pipeline.

“We appreciate what you are doing and want you to do more. Please know the Ministry is ready to support your efforts,” the Sports Minister said.

Ghana is the first African nation to host a structured NFL FLAG programme, backed by professional players Brian Asamoah and Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah and the Philadelphia Eagles, who are promoting grassroots American football in the country.
