Sanitopia CIC Targets 10,000 Sanitation Projects Across Africa

Africa-Press – Ghana. Sanitopia CIC, a United Kingdom-based Community Interest Company, has launched a campaign aimed at constructing 10,000 modern sanitation facilities across Africa by 2035.

This, the Sanitopia CIC said, is to improve access to safe and sustainable hygiene services in underserved communities.

Founded by Mr Richard Kojo Acheampong, a lawyer, entrepreneur and philanthropist, the organisation seeks to make access to clean and safe sanitation a basic right for every child, while contributing to improved health, gender equality and education outcomes.

In a statement copied to the Ghana News Agency, Sanitopia CIC said its mission was to respond to

persistent public health challenges, including disease outbreaks linked to poor sanitation, as well as barriers that prevent girls from staying in school due to a lack of private and adequate washroom facilities.

The initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Good Health and Well-being (SDG 3), Gender Equality (SDG 5), and Clean Water and Sanitation (SDG 6).

Sanitopia CIC operates on a community-centred model that ensures transparency, accountability and local participation throughout the lifecycle of each project to guarantee durability and ownership.

Currently operating in Ghana and extending its reach to other African countries, the company said it was positioning itself as a purpose-driven construction entity focused on building safe and inclusive community spaces that promote dignity and better living standards.

As part of its sanitation transformation agenda, Sanitopia recently completed a modern 12-seater toilet facility for female students of Nkonya Senior High School in the Oti Region.

The project, driven by concerns over poor sanitary conditions on campus, also included the refurbishment of an abandoned washroom block and the construction of a roofed walkway linking it to a 25-unit bathroom facility to ensure comfortable access in all weather conditions.

The intervention, the statement said, had restored confidence and improved hygiene among female students, contributing to a safer learning environment and encouraging consistent school attendance.

The organisation reaffirmed that sanitation is a fundamental human right and called for stronger partnerships to accelerate impact across the continent.
