Mahama Urged to Extend Allowances for Assembly Members

Africa-Press – Ghana. Mr Mustapha Mershark, the Unit Committee Chairman at the Baakoniaba Electoral Area in the Sunyani Municipality, has appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to extend the payment of allowances to assembly members to benefit unit committees.

Nonetheless, he commended the President for the payment of the allowance to the assembly members as he promised in the Election 2024.

In an interview, Mr Mershark described the allowances as inspiring, and that unit committee members also deserved some.

He indicated that the allowance would not only motivate the members to work hard but also inspire them to mobilise their constituents for community development.

Mr Mershark, also the Manager of the Nobles College and Great Mammersh Preparatory School in the Municipality said the extension of the allowance to benefit the unit committees would greatly motivate them to engage their constituents in identifying and tackling the emerging development needs of the local communities.

He observed that facilitating accelerated development remained collective responsibility, noting that it would be extremely difficult for the government alone to shoulder the responsibility of progressive and sustainable development.

Mr Mershark said he had personally funded the construction of toilet facilities at Jinijini and Owukorm farming communities in the municipality and urged everybody to contribute their quota towards the development of their respective communities.

He emphasised that peace and unity remained pre-requisite for development, urging Ghanaians to bury their political orientations and support the government in its reset Ghana agenda.
