Africa-Press – Ghana. Ghana’s women’s national team, the Black Queens, held their first training session in Southampton on Sunday as preparations intensified for Tuesday’s international friendly against England.
The squad trained for over an hour at Mortgage Decisions Stadium under cool conditions, focusing on ball movement, quick transitions and set-piece drills.
The Black Queens arrived in Southampton earlier on Sunday after a short trip from Birmingham, where they had camped at Aston Villa’s Bodymoor Heath Training Ground.
Upon arrival, the team was welcomed by the local Ghanaian community before checking into the Hilton Hotel at Utilita Bowl.
Black Queens Head coach Kim Lars Björkegren acknowledged the challenge ahead of Tuesday’s top liner against the Lionesses of England, saying: “We’re jumping into deep water to see if we can swim against the best team in the world. It’s going to be really tough, but we know we have some qualities.”
The friendly at the St. Mary’s Stadium marks one of Ghana’s toughest tests in recent years as they seek to build momentum ahead of upcoming continental qualifiers and next year’s Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
