Africa-Press – Ghana. Master Hayford Addai, a second-year amputee visual arts student of the Konongo Odumase Senior High School (KOSS) has won three medals for Ghana at the first West Africa Paralympic games in Abeokuta, Nigeria.

The medals are gold in the 100-meter race, and two silver medals in the 200 and 400-meter races, which contributed to the about 40 medals Ghana won during the games.

The six-day event, which started on November 28, 2025, and ended on December 03, 2025, brought together over 600 para-athletes from countries across West Africa.

Master Addai, who has one of his arms amputated came to the limelight after his exceptional display of athletic skills at the 2025 inter-schools super-zonal athletics competition organised by the Ashanti Regional Schools and Colleges Sports Federation.

Being the only physically challenged student among other athletes from KOSS, Master Addai secured a spot for his school to participate in the finals of the 4X 200 meters and 4X100 meter races during the inter-schools super zonal competition.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in an interview, Master Addai expressed appreciation to the country for giving him opportunity to represent Ghana in an international competition.

He said competing with other athletes from different countries had broadened his view of sports and increased his confidence level.

“That was my first time travelling outside the country.

The experience was exciting and great.

I am grateful to the country for the opportunity,” he stated.

He associated his progress in the sports world to the KOSS for scouting and giving him the necessary exposure to flourish.

Master Addai noted that, his morale and confidence were first boosted when the school allowed him to train and compete with other students without disabilities.

According to him, he dreamt of becoming an iconic athlete like Usain Bolt of Jamaica to lift the country’s name high.

He pledged to devote more time and energy to training to improve his skill to continue to be relevant at the international level.

He advised other persons living with disabilities not to look down on themselves but invest into developing their skills as disability was not end to life.
