Africa-Press – Ghana. Mr. Charles Appiah-Kubi, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Bosome Freho, has issued a warning to residents against the theft of construction materials as work begins on four key development projects in the district.
Speaking at separate sod-cutting ceremonies, Mr. Appiah-Kubi cautioned that acts of pilfering could derail the timely completion of the projects, which are expected to be delivered within an eight-month completion period.
The projects include the construction of two Community Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds at Nsese and Korchikrom, a Kindergarten (KG) block at Mamfi, and a three-unit classroom block at Fereso.
The DCE urged community members to take collective responsibility for protecting the sites, describing them as community-owned projects that must be safeguarded for the benefit of present and future generations.
He encouraged residents to act as “watchdogs”, remain vigilant, and promptly report any suspicious activities to prevent the theft of materials.
According to him, the success of the projects depended not only on the contractors, but also on the cooperation and commitment of the local communities.
He also appealed to contractors to engage local labour, noting that, it would promote a sense of ownership, while creating temporary employment opportunities for residents.
Traditional leaders from the beneficiary communities welcomed the projects and pledged their support to ensure their protection.
They thanked the government for responding to the pressing healthcare and educational needs of the district, stressing that the facilities would significantly improve access to healthcare and enhance teaching and learning outcomes.
The ceremonies were attended by assembly members, traditional authorities, and other community stakeholders, all of whom echoed the call for vigilance to ensure the smooth execution of the projects.
