DISEC Engages Assembly Members in Kassena-Nankana West

Africa-Press – Ghana. The Kassena-Nankana West District Security Council (DISEC), has engaged Assembly members from the 46 electoral areas to brief them on security issues in the area.

The DISEC team drawn from various security agencies led by its Chairman Mr Stephen Aeke Akurugo, was part of strategies to court the support of Assembly members and their electorate to enhance law and order in the District.

Security heads from the Ghana Police Service, the Ghana Immigration Service, the Ghana National Fire Service, the Ghana Prisons Service and their sister agencies took turns to address the Assembly members on critical security issues in their respective sectors.

The engagement, which was the third ordinary meeting of the Assembly, offered members the opportunity to interact with the security heads and seek answers to issues of concern to them in their respective electoral areas.

Addressing the meeting, the DISEC Chairman, who is the District Chief Executive (DCE), said the Council saw the need to engage the Assembly members to brief them on some security issues in the District as representatives of the people.

“Each of you is representing an electoral area, and there are definitely security issues in every electoral area. So it will not be proper for the security agencies to be far from you.

“There is the need for them to be closer to you as Assembly members,” he said.

Mr Akurugo said the DISEC was hopeful that the Assembly members would help sensitise electorates on the need to cooperate with security agencies, and render useful information to them to help ensure law, peace and order across the District.

“When we have the discussed issues implemented in your electoral areas, it will give the District the peace we want. It is only through a peaceful District that we can have central government’s programmes and policies implemented to the benefit of the people in your electoral areas,” he said.

The DCE, who further briefed the meeting on an Executive Committee report of the Assembly for consideration and approval, said among other recommendations that the Committee should present a draft Medium Term Development Plan (MTDP) to the General Assembly for adoption.

He said the draft report included the provision of places of convenience and water facilities in all major markets in the District adding that, “The Assembly should construct a modern livestock market at Paga, market sheds for the Chiana market, provide access routes to Sirigu, Kandiga and Mirigu markets.”

On education, the draft prioritised infrastructure support for schools such as the Kaasi and the Kasaam Junior High Schools among others, which were in deplorable conditions.

The DCE thanked the Assembly members for their support and contributions throughout the year, heads of departments and staff for their dedication to duty saying, “Your commitment has impacted the progress we continue to make as an Assembly.”

He gave an assurance that the District Assembly remained resolute in its determination to work tirelessly in the best interest of the people and promote development across all communities in the District.

Mr Akurugo wished the people and their families a prosperous New Year, praying that the coming year would bring them renewed strength, unity and success in their collaborative efforts.
