Africa-Press – Ghana. The Techiman Metropolitan Directorate of Education in the Bono East Region has engaged about 5,867 candidates to prepare them adequately for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

They were drawn from 87 public and 67 private Junior High Schools (JHS) in the metropolis and exposed to some BECE guidelines and consequences of engaging in examination malpractices and cheating.

Speaking on the sidelines of the engagement meeting at Techiman, Mr Stephen Owusu, the Public Relations Officer at the Techiman Metropolitan Directorate of Education said the event sought to build the confidence of the candidates in writing the BECE.

It is part of on-going efforts to tackle examination malpractices, he stated, explaining that some personnel of the West African Examination Council (WAEC) took the candidates through the BECE guidelines, rules and regulations.

Mr Owusu noted that the new JHS curriculum was based on critical thinking, innovation and creativity, and advised the candidates to always “think outside the box when solving BECE questions.”

Mr Daniel Nii Dodoo, the Bono, Bono East and Ahafo Regional Controller of the WAEC, told the candidates that examination malpractices remained a serious offence and took them through the ‘dos and don’ts’ of the BECE.

He urged the candidates to obey the rules and regulations governing the examination and avoid the temptation of sending prohibited materials and gadgets like mobile phones to the examination halls.

Some of the candidates described the engagement as insightful, eye-opening and beneficial.
