Africa-Press – Ghana. The Offinso North District capital, Akumadan, was set agog, with the 3rd edition of the annual Anidaso Easter Soccer Gala Competition, on Good Friday.
A performance of brilliant gymnastics displays by pupils of Uni Joe Education Complex, also added colour and pump to the opening ceremony.
Dr Fred Kyei Asamoah, the Member of Parliament for Offinso North, in the Ashanti Region, in an address, said the event was aimed primarily at bringing excitement, joy and peace to the area during the Easter festivities.
He added that the tournament was also to boost economic activities and foster unity and peaceful co-existence among the people.
The MP indicated that the event while helping to unearth and developing the soccer talents among the youth it was also geared towards building their confidence to enable them to compete anywhere across the globe.
“We’re also considering adding other disciplines like, basketball, volleyball, among others in future events, because sports is a major investment to grow and boost both local and national economies,” he stated.
He expressed gratitude to the Chief and elders of Akumadan for releasing land for the construction of the Lions Astro Turf, which has become an enviable attraction to the sporting world.
Dr. Asamoah commended the security agencies in the district for laying the grounds for an orderly and peaceful programme.
Sixteen teams from the various Electoral Areas of the Constituency, are competing for honours in the four-day soccer fiesta.
The winner takes home, a cash prize of Ghc18,000.
