Africa-Press – Ghana. Madam Patricia Pearl Ankrah, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Afigya Kwabre South, has assured residents that persistent traffic challenges on major roads in the district will be addressed.
She gave the assurance at a town hall meeting held at Akrowa, organised by the District Assembly in collaboration with community elders, as part of efforts to account for her stewardship and engage citizens on development priorities.
Madam Ankrah said the Assembly was engaging relevant stakeholders to find lasting solutions to key issues affecting the district, particularly poor road networks and congestion.
She explained that the forum was also to educate the public on local governance processes and highlight government development projects and programmes being implemented in the area.
The DCE emphasised the need for stronger collaboration among Assembly Members, traditional leaders and residents, urging them to work together to drive development in their respective communities.
She cautioned Assembly Members against discrimination in the discharge of their duties and encouraged inclusivity to ensure equitable service delivery.
Residents and stakeholders at the meeting raised concerns about deteriorating road conditions, traffic congestion, and other infrastructure deficits impacting daily life across communities.
In an interview with the media on the sidelines, Madam Ankrah identified poor road conditions as a major cause of the traffic situation and disclosed that the Assembly was in discussions with the sector minister to facilitate the rehabilitation of affected roads.
She also revealed plans to introduce additional buses to improve public transportation and ease the movement of commuters.
Madam Ankrah appealed to residents to remain calm and patient, assuring them of government’s commitment to addressing the challenges confronting the district.
As part of the programme, Mr Ebenezer Quarm, the District Development Planning Officer, presented the District Medium-Term Development Plan (2026–2029).
He outlined key challenges identified through engagements with Area Councils and indicated that the plan would prioritise addressing those concerns to promote sustainable development and enhance service delivery.
The meeting also featured representatives from Development and Sustainable Initiatives (DSI), Denmark, who trained Assembly Members and traditional authorities on effective communication, leadership and strategies to strengthen collaboration with the Assembly.
