WAFU U20 Championship: Ghana coach Karim Zito blames defeat to bad weather against Nigeria

Africa-Press – Ghana. Black Satellites coach Karim Zito has blamed his team’s defeat against Nigeria to high altitude in the ongoing WAFU U20 Championship.

Ghana suffered a 2-0 defeat to Nigeria in an opening Group B match at the Stade Général Seyni Kountche in Niamey on Sunday afternoon.

Goals from Ibrahim Muhammad and Ahmed Abudullahi in each half of the game ensured the Flying Eagles picked all three points.

Coach Karim Zito blamed his team’s defeat on the harsh weather conditions in Niger.

The former Dreams FC coach explained that his team’s late arrival in Niger could be a factor in their defeat.

“For the adaptation, we came late. We were beaten by a good side. They did well. We had the opportunity to score but we couldn’t”.

“We have now tasted how the weather is. We will regroup and comeback. There is always the opportunity to make the amendments. So am not down hearted. We still have a match to play, we will do our best”.

Ghana will face Burkina Faso in the next game.

The defending champions must beat the Young Stallions to have a chance of progressing to the semifinals.

The competition serves as qualifiers for the Africa U-20 Cup of Nations.
