Africa-Press – Ghana. Four and a half years after a deadly explosion in a major natural gas terminal in Austria, four people were sentenced to 10 months of probation each by the district court of Korneuburg on Wednesday.
They were accused of causing a major fire. Eight of the 12 defendants were found not guilty, while the verdict for the other four is still subject to appeal.
In December 2017, an explosion occurred in the natural gas plant of Baumgarten near the border with Slovakia. A 32-year-old man was killed and 22 people injured. The cause of the accident is considered to be a defectively installed component.
The damage amounted to roughly €50 million ($52.6 million). The explosion temporarily affected natural gas supplies to southern and south-eastern Europe.
