Information has been gathered that, Alhaji Tanko Pro-Umar who operates a Forex Bureau in Accra who has also been peddling himself as the Greater Accra Zarma Chief visited Tamale, to meet with some group and incite them to torment and cause tension and unrest in the Tamale municipality against the enskinment of the new Northern Regional Zarma Chief who was enskinned last month by the overlord of the Dagbon Kingdom, YAA NAA ABUBAKARI MAHAMA GARIBA II. The said Alhaji Tanko had failed severally to honor the invitation of the Accra Regional Police Command after a report was made about him presenting himself as the Greater Accra Zarma.
Alhaji Mohammed Mucktar Halidu, the newly Zarma Chief of the Northern Region was selected and endorsed by the Zarma communities in Tamale and the entire Zarma Communities in Ghana which was represented by their regional chiefs at the outdooring ceremony of the new Gbawaa Zarma Chief in Sakasaka a suburb of Tamale on the 26th of June 2022, He succeeded his elder brother Alhaji Issaka Halidu, who died earlier this year after ruling for over twenty years as the North Regional Zarma Chief when he took over from their father in 1994 after his demise.
Zarma are indigenous settlers in Ghana whose presence dated back before independence are known to be well-behaved, hard-working business minded people, who respect rules and always live peacefully amongst each other and in harmony and with other groups of people in Ghana and beyond. In addition to promoting peace and creating the enabling platform for coexisting, the Zarma community have championed the formation of well- structured institutions, which includes, the National Council of Elders, National Council of Zarma Chiefs (which had the sixteen Regional Zarma Chiefs) amongst others.
Alhaji Tanko Pro-Umar is working on creating a rival group in Tamale and other parts of the country to help him cause unrest and destabilize the peace in Zarma community. This will further affect the peace and stability of the people of Tamale just for his selfish and personal interest. Based on this we call the attention of the police and other security agencies to put a stop to any gathering of the Zarma group in Tamale which is being organized by Alhaji Tanko Pro-Umar, Alhaji Muniru, and their other associates.
