Africa-Press – Ghana. As I vividly recall, the legion hats-wearing Mr. Inusah Fuseini was a member of the criminal ring of double-salary guzzling Mahama cabinet appointees snagged by then Auditor-General Daniel Yaw Domelevo in the wee-days of the Akufo-Addo Presidency. It was the first prime opportunity presented on the metaphorical and proverbial silver platter to the former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice to prove, once-and-for-all, that, indeed, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was the widely vaunted incorruptible and “unbribeable” and “unpayolable” leader that Ghanaians had, since anybody could remember, been hankering for. And not altogether unexpectedly, the French-speaking former Minister of Foreign Affairs and ECOWAS Integration blew it royally, after which apocalyptic failure, I completely gave up the delirious idea of expecting any miracles or revolutionary changes in the way that governance is done and has been done since the seismically euphoric emergence of President Kwame Nkrumah on the Continental African Political Stage some 70 years ago.

Like most of his fiercest defenders and, some would even say, unpaid propaganda shills, I have since long given up on the present New Patriotic Party (NPP) government in Ghana. Paradoxically, however, I still think and believe that President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, warts and all, is still far and away the most progressive of all five Fourth-Republican Presidents of Ghana. The worst, of course, being former President John “European Airbus Payola” Dramani Mahama. Now, back to the main topic of this column, which comes from a news story titled “Former Minister and MP’s Son Convicted by US Court for Money Laundering, Fraud” Ghanaweb.com 8/24/22). In the afore-referenced story, we are reliably informed that a son of retired National Democratic Congress’ Member of Parliament for Tamale-Central Constituency, in the Northern Region, has been convicted on charges of mail and wire fraud and the extortion of huge sums of money, running into the hundreds of thousands of dollars, mostly in the name of falsely fabricated romantic relationships.

The 31-year-old Mr. Abdul Inusah, as of this writing, had been convicted and was awaiting sentencing and facing several wire-fraud charges that could end him spending a half-century in an American prison. In the wake of the widespread or viral publication of this story in legions of newspapers and media websites around the globe, some relatives and family members, as well as friends and associates of the Inusah family, have been shooting forth their own versions of what they claim to be the truth and the full story, although the culprit protagonist convict of the news report is not flatly denying that he is, in fact, guilty of at least some legally determined wrongdoing, except that Mr. Abdul Inusah also claims that he had had his ID and some other unspecified personal documents legitimately (that is, with his express permission) used by a friend for criminal purposes of which he had absolutely no idea or knowledge. Show me your friend, remember this saying, Dear Reader?

You see, were this young man 20 years old or even 25 years old, he could very well be cut some slack, as it were, at least in the name of sheer naivety. But at 31 years old, and coming from an upper-class Ghanaian political background, this SOB is almost a grandfather in professional scam-artistry of the kind that his own father, Mr. Inusah Fuseini, the former Mahama-appointed Road Transport, Local Government and Lands and Natural Resources Minister, not exactly in the order listed here but serially so all right, got himself caught in and had to quietly and, perhaps, even relatively respectably vacate his seat, voluntarily, in Ghana’s Parliament. But for his son Abdul’s getting caught in a mega-heist hereabouts in the United States of America, where the law is not routinely ridden roughshod over like in Ghana, Mr. Inusah Fuseini would still be leading a completely anonymous and peaceful and a very comfortable life, to be certain.

What also struck me as quite fascinating is the fact that it well appears that the relatives of politicians from the country’s main opposition National Democratic Congress are far more likely to get caught in shameful acts of criminality hereabouts, such as happened nearly a decade ago, if yours truly remembers accurately, with the younger sister of Mr. Samuel Okudzeto-Ablakwa, the snag-toothed stentorian National Democratic Congress’ Parliamentary Spokesperson on Foreign Affairs and inveterate Akufo-Addo critic and, some even claim, enemy. In the case of the latter, the culprit or fraudster was barely out of her teens and her diapers then and so managed to get away with scarcely a slap on her wrists. Hopefully, the young “Avun Koklo Fiafito Konkumala” is happily married to a good man, that is, if she happens to be of the marrying type, and leading a peaceful and, hopefully, a meaningful existence somewhere or wherever she may be. You see, when kleptocratic thievishness happens to be part of the genetic makeup of any personality or clan or political and/or ideological establishment, it well appears that there is little to absolutely nothing that can be done to either arrest such antisocial behavior or completely extinguish this fiery flame of carcinogen.

You see, while I was growing up in Akyem-Asiakwa, in Ghana’s Eastern Region, my maternal grandparents were fond of constantly and incessantly warning us, their grandchildren, against all antisocial and criminal behavior or misbehavior, for that matter. You see, if the kinds of madness that Mr. Abdul Inusah and Ms. Ablakwa are alleged to be afflicted with do not get cauterized or permanently remedied very early in life at home, that is, promptly nipped in the bud, the end results are often not the least bit pleasant. Plus, the fact that the Americans already have the kleptocratic fingerprints of the political patron and former boss of Abdul’s father, Inusah, in their DNA lab and information storage and retrieval system, is not very good news. And on the latter count, of course, the unmistakable reference here is to our globally infamous European Airbus Payola Racketeer, to wit, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Gonja John Akonfem-Kanazoe Ouagadougou Dramani Mahama. Yes, one can almost always rest assured that sooner or later, the chickens will be coming home to roost.
