Africa-Press – Ghana. Ghana secured qualification to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations after coming from behind to beat the Central African Republic 2-1 at the Baba Yara Stadium on Thursday.
Despite a poor start which led to Ghana conceding first in the 25th minute, Ghana restored their fortunes as Mohammed Kudus curled in a brilliant free-kick to equalise while substitute Ernest Nuamah scored late to hand Ghana qualification.
A lot of positives were recorded from this victory despite conceding yet again in a disappointing manner.
Lawrence Ati Zigi – 6: Dealt well with the few shots he faced but couldn’t do much to prevent his opponent from scoring from a defensive blunder
Alidu Seidu – 6.5: Proved why the team is blessed with quality in the right-back position as he managed to keep his opponents in check while combining well with Osman Bukari as well as Ernest Nuamah on the right flank.
Joseph Aidoo – 6.5: Was a key reason Ghana didn’t face much danger at the back but for the goal conceded in the first half.
Alexander Djiku – 6: He paired with Aidoo so well filling in nicely for the injured Daniel Amartey
Abdul Baba Rahman – 6: Was okay in the first half with cautious passes and impressive runs on the left flank but received a knock in the second half.
Abdul Salis Samed- 6.5: Showed his consistency in the heart of midfield by shielding the back four as well as initiating attacks with distribution to the wings.
Elisha Owusu – 6: Partey’s replacement for the match and he took the opportunity well. However, lacked accuracy in his initial long passes. Would probably need more opportunities to fit in seamlessly.
Mohammed Kudus – 8: Once again delivered in a crucial moment by scoring a stunning free-kick on the cusp of half-time to turn the game around.
Osman Bukari – 6: Was a threat for the Wild Beasts on the right flank with daring runs and beautiful footwork but only lacked the finishing touch which he is known for.
Jordan Ayew – 6: As the skipper, all he needed was to see his team win and he did well to make it happen with his remarkable work in both defense and attack.
Inaki Williams – 6: Was a team player but lacked supplies from midfield perhaps due to his problematic positioning
Substitutes
Ernest Nuamah – 7.5: Ghana’s newfound love, Nuamah climbed from the bench to net the winner. His recent praise and applause from his performances at the club level was justified with his remarkable cameo.
Antoine Semenyo – 7: Beginning to make the Baba Yara Stadium his favourite venue as he set up Nuamah to justify Hughton’s substitutions.
Gideon Mensah – 5.5 Didn’t have much to deal with defensively since he entered at a time when Ghana were on the front foot but contributed significantly by joining the attack in their ambitious adventures later in the game
