Africa-Press – Ghana. The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced the indefinite postponement of the league match scheduled for Sunday between Heart of Lions FC and Hearts of Oak.
This decision is in response to the spillage of the Akosombo dam, which has adversely affected Sogakope, the location of the match’s venue, WAFA Park.
In a statement, the GFA explained, “The GFA will continue to monitor the situation and announce a new date for the match in due course.”
The Volta River Authority (VRA) initiated controlled spillage at the Akosombo and Kpong dams in the Eastern Region starting on September 15.
This action was taken due to the excess water in both reservoirs resulting from heavy rainfall. The spillage has had far-reaching repercussions on various communities, notably impacting Sogakope and prompting the GFA to indefinitely postpone the highly-anticipated match.
Both teams have struggled to establish themselves in the new season. Heart of Lions are looking for their first win, while Hearts of Oak coach Martin Koopman is under pressure after only one win in four games.
