Africa-Press – Ghana. Director of Communications for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) Richard Ahiagbah has slammed the flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Dramani Mahama for engaging in tribal politics with a serious national disaster that has hit parts of the Volta Region.
Justifying the comments of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo while in the the Volta Region, Richard Ahiagbah said the New Patriotic Party will resist any attempt by the opposition to use ethnocentric comments to cause disunity and instability in the country.
“The idea that government will stand aloof and have people suffer is something that I can’t fathom but that was the notion the NDC and its flagbearer is advancing in the Volta Region, creating the impression government doesn’t care about them and it’s painful.
“When the unfortunate incident happened, the NDC was in the Volta Region campaigning and telling the people that because they are Ewes, government will not support them and this I see to be unfortunate.”
He noted President Akufo-Addo will continue to shame his critics because he has over the years proven to be a president for all.
“President Akufo-Addo was in the Volta Region because a portion of the Ghanaian population he leads were in crisis and not because they voted or didn’t vote for him.”
On the economy, Richard Ahiagbah believes the Akufo-Addo-led government will turn the fortunes around once again as it did in 2017.
“In 2017 when the NPP took over, our GDP growth was a little over three percent but we grew it to over eight percent in 2017 and despite the challenges in 2020 and 2022, we are still better than what the NDC did between 2011 to 2016.”
He appealed to Ghanaians to trust in the leadership of the New Patriotic Party to deliver a prosperous governance.
The NPP Director of Communications was in the Savannah Region with some members of the National Communications Team of the party to train party communicators.
