Africa-Press – Ghana. Ghana coach Chris Hughton has announced his final 27-man squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, which takes place in Ivory Coast this January.
The team includes several top players, such as Mohammed Kudus, Inaki Williams, Jordan Ayew, and captain Andre Ayew, with Thomas Partey being the notable exclusion due to uncertainty surrounding his injury return.
Kudus has been performing well for West Ham, scoring 10 goals in all competitions, while Williams has scored eight goals for Athletic Bilbao.
Monaco defender Mohammed Salisu, who struggled with injury earlier in the season but is now fully fit, has also been included in the squad.
The squad was announced at a press conference held at the Alisa Hotel in Accra, where Hughton explained that he had to make some difficult decisions, including the exclusion of Baba Rahman and Fatawu Issahaku, who both opted out, as well as injured players Kamaldeen Sulemana and Tariq Lamptey.
Asante Kotoko midfielder Richmond Lamptey has been selected for the squad for his strong performance in the Ghana Premier League. He is one of three home-based players in the squad, along with Medeama duo Fatawu Hamidu and striker Jonathan Sowah.
The Black Stars will begin their campaign in Group B on January 14, facing Cape Verde, followed by matches against Egypt and Mozambique.
