Heart of Lions roar to victory against Asante Kotoko

Africa-Press – Ghana. Asante Kotoko missed the opportunity to go joint top of the top of the Ghana Premier League table as they suffered a 1-0 loss against Heart of Lions on Saturday in Kpando.

Despite being the favourites, Kotoko struggled to create meaningful chances against a determined Heart of Lions side, who were buoyed by their recent upturn in form under new coach Bashir Hayford.

The home team’s hard work paid off in the 52nd minute when forward Godfred Asamoah Kwadwo scored what turned out to be the winning goal.

Things went from bad to worse for Kotoko when defender Nicholas Mensah was given his marching orders in the 59th minute following a second bookable offence.

The dismissal left Kotoko with a mountain to climb, and despite their best efforts, they couldn’t find a way back into the game.

With the loss, Kotoko remain in third place, three points behind leaders Samartex, who have the chance to extend their advantage when they face second-placed Aduana Stars on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Heart of Lions continue their impressive run under Hayford, moving up to 14th place and just one point of safety.
