Ebi Bright Nominated as First Female MCE of Tema Metro

Africa-Press – Ghana. President John Dramani Mahama has nominated three-time National Democratic Congress (NDC) Tema Central parliamentary candidate Ms Ebi Bright as the first female Metropolitan Chief Executive of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA).

She is among the 29 people nominated by the President to head various metropolitan, municipal, and district chief executives for the Greater Accra Region.

Tema Metro is comprised of two constituencies, Tema East, and Tema Central.

Her nomination comes on the back of agitations and several calls from the Tema Traditional Council and the youth of Tema for the president to appoint a native of the area as MCE to protect their customs and traditions.

Ms Bright, in the 2024 general elections, narrowly lost being named the Tema Central MP; Mr Charles Forson of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was declared the winner after securing 18,870 votes over her 18,815 votes.

Meanwhile, Mr Ludwig Teye Tottimeh, the deputy NDC Tema West constituency secretary, has also been nominated as the Tema West Municipal Chief Executive.

His nomination makes him the first male to be nominated to the position after three women have occupied the seat since the ceding off the assembly from the TMA.

Other nominees are Mr Samuel Tetteh Kwarshie Morton, Kpone-Katamanso; Mr. Raphael Uriel Nartey, Ningo-Prampram; Mr. Freeman Tsekpo, Ashiaman; Mr. Jerry John Foereigner Mills-Nkrumah, Ada West; and Mr Ignatius Godfred Dordoe, Shai Osudoku.

The nominations, according to the press statement released by Mr Ahmed Ibrahim, Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, are in accordance with Article 243 (1) of the 1992 Constitution and Section 20 (1) of the Local Government Act, 2016 (Act 936).
