Africa-Press – Ghana. Odeefour Ogyeamansan Boahen Korkor II, the Paramount Chief of the Sunyani Traditional Area has urged banking institutions to provide financial assistance to women engaged in small-scale businesses and entrepreneurship.

That would empower them to improve their economic activities and build a resilient local economy and to spur economic growth and development.

Odeefour Ogyeaman Korkor II gave the advice when a delegation from five major banking institutions called on him in Sunyani.

The bankers include Mr Foster Frimpong, the Head of Marketing, Fidelity Bank, Mr Solomon Bennett, Sunyani Branch Manager, Fidelity Branch Manager, Mr Urbanus Mbit Abotiyunre, the Customer Service Manager, Ecobank and Mr Mohammed Awudu, the Sunyani Branch Manager, Ecobank.

Rest were Mr Philip Selorm Adika, the Sunyani Branch Manager, Fidelity Bank, Mr Justice, the Head of Operations, GT Bank, and Mr Alhassan Sumaila, the Sunyani Branch Manager GT Bank.

Odeefour Ogyeamansan Korkor II underscored the need for the banks to invest in the local economy towards building a more resilient society for economic development.

He also asked the banks to expand the implementation of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes to the local communities, noting that despite their positive contributions to economic growth, their visibility on CSR programme initiative in the local communities remained poor.

Odeefour Ogyeamansan Korkor II stressed that investments in the CSR programmes would enhance the image of the banks and tackle the development needs of the people.

He expressed worry about the abandonment of the construction work on the Bono Regional Library in Sunyani which was deteriorating and called on the banks to intervene for the completion of the project.

Odeefour Ogyeamansan assured the banks that the Sunyani Traditional Council was ready to release lands for them to establish additional branches and to reduce the burden of high rent charges that affected their operations.

The bankers took turns to congratulate the paramount chief for his enstoolment and pledged their commitment to support the development of the Traditional Area.
