I Don’T Take the Opportunity for Granted – Lawra MP

Africa-Press – Ghana. Mr. Bede Ziedeng, Member of Parliament (MP) for the Lawra Constituency, has expressed deep gratitude to his constituents for renewing his mandate for a second term, assuring them that he does not take the opportunity for granted.

He attributed his re-election to the confidence the electorate had in his work and the trust they placed in him and pledged to continue serving their interests diligently.

In an interview in Lawra, Mr. Ziedeng highlighted key achievements from his first term and outlined his plans for the constituency in his second term.

Reflecting on his past interventions, the MP said he supported women in the constituency by providing modest capital to help them start petty trading businesses. He also implemented initiatives across the education, health, roads, and water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) sectors, which he said positively impacted lives.

Some notable achievements include support for first-year tertiary students to pay their fees, rehabilitation of health facilities, facilitating the tarring of the Lawra-Domwini-Hain Road, and partnering with charity organisations to drill boreholes for schools and communities.

“I believe that, by reason of all these activities, the people of the Lawra Constituency gave me another opportunity to serve as MP for a second term. I am grateful and I do not take it for granted,” he said.

Looking ahead, Mr. Ziedeng said he plans to construct a shed for patients and caretakers, build an incinerator at the Babile Polyclinic, and rehabilitate the nurses’ bungalow at the Dommini Health Centre. He also intends to procure medical equipment for the Ermong Health Centre and support other facilities, including the Lawra Municipal Hospital.

The MP reaffirmed his commitment to supporting poor and underprivileged constituents to register and renew their National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) cards to access free healthcare.

On WASH, Mr. Ziedeng said he plans to drill 40 boreholes across the constituency in partnership with Lifetime Wells International, a non-governmental organisation. He noted that drilling of the first five boreholes had already commenced in Lissa, Tampie-Baagan, Zambo-Sia, Koro-Baagan, and Birffo-Daboyiri.

“Beyond the 40 boreholes, I’m still lobbying for additional support from other NGOs because the need for water is virtually endless,” he added.

Touching on road infrastructure, the MP said he would ensure the completion of the Lawra-Domwini-Hain Road and work with the Lawra Municipal Assembly to improve the road network using District Roads Improvement Project (DRIP) equipment.

Mr. Ziedeng said he would also leverage government initiatives such as the National Apprenticeship and Coders Programme, Farmer Service Centres, and the Women’s Development Bank to enhance livelihoods in the constituency.
