Africa-Press – Ghana. The President’s nominee for the position of District Chief Executive (DCE) for Afigya Kwabre South, Madam Pearl Patricia Ankrah made history by becoming the first woman to assume the position of District Chief Executive (DCE).
She secured 36 votes out of 39, surpassing the two-thirds threshold required for her approval.
Earlier, Mr. Gyasi Danso was elected the new Presiding Member (PM) to supervise the process.
Her overwhelming confirmation was met with celebrations from all stakeholders present in the auditorium.
Supporters of both the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) including the Member of Parliament (MP), Damata Ama Appianimaa Salam were present to witness the historic event.
The newly confirmed DCE, in her acceptance speech, expressed gratitude for the confidence reposed in her and called for a united front in pursuing the Assembly’s development agenda.
She emphasised that inclusive leadership and collective ideas are essential tools for the progress of the district.
She said her endorsement had opened a new chapter in the political history of the district, stressing that the area could boast of a female MP, DCE and Coordinating Director.
The resetting agenda of the President, she noted, would be central to the development of the district, and called for the support of all stakeholders.
The MP also commended members of the Assembly for endorsing the nominee, pointing out that it was a wake-up call for women in the district to strife to attain leadership roles to ensure representation of women at all levels of governance.
She called for fair representation and equity urging men to continue to support and encourage women to succeed.
