Africa-Press – Ghana. Mr. Abubakar Sedik, District Chief Executive (DCE) for Ahafo Ano South-West in the Ashanti Region, has underscored the critical role of chiefs in local governance and rural development.

He said chiefs and other traditional authorities were very important in local governance in the current democratic dispensation and could therefore, not be ignored by political leaders in governance administration at the district levels.

Mr Sedik stated these at separate meetings with chiefs of Wioso, Kunsu and Mankranso, as part of his familiarization tour to introduce himself to traditional rulers in the district.

The visit was also to discuss with the chiefs, their priority projects, especially, markets and find ways to execute the projects to successful completion.

Mr Sedik assured the chiefs of building a model and modernized 24-hour markets at Mankranso and Kunsu to boost the local economy.

He would also work to complete the on-going modern market, which was initiated by the previous government at Wioso.

The DCE said the government was poised to deliver its promises to the people in the area by providing the district with its fair share of the national cake.

Nana Owusu Amankwaatia Sampene, Chief of Mankranso, Nana Assaw Ababio, chief of Wioso, and Nana Agyemang Duah, chief of Kunsu, pledged their support to the DCE and said they would work closely with him to bring the needed development to the area.
