Africa-Press – Ghana. The Ghana office of the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) has reaffirmed its commitment to civic education, democratic governance, and youth empowerment during its participation at the West African Clean Energy & Environment Trade Fair & Conference 2025 (WACEE ’25) underway in Accra.
Mrs Anna Wasserfall, KAS Ghana Country Representative, said the foundation’s work this year focused on strengthening democracy and addressing misinformation while expanding youth engagement and environmental awareness.
She said one of the year’s key achievements was the publication of “Stocktaking of Ghana’s Democracy”, an in-depth post-election study analysing voter behaviour and perceptions of democracy in Ghana.
The report, she noted, generated wide public discussion and engagement on democratic participation.
KAS Ghana has also intensified campaigns against misinformation, working with community leaders, faith-based organisations, and youth groups to promote responsible information sharing, particularly on social media, she added.
“We believe fighting mis- and disinformation is vital not just around election time but for building trust in public discourse,” Mrs Wasserfall said.
The foundation, she added, had continued to provide leadership and civic education training for young people and women in universities, alongside initiatives promoting environmental responsibility.
The KAS’ ongoing “Plastic Awareness Competition,” implemented with the Catholic Education Unit, encourages students to view plastic waste as a reusable and economically viable resource.
Mrs Wasserfall said while the foundation’s main focus remained civic education, it would continue to collaborate with partners to expand the impact of such youth-driven sustainability projects.
“Our goal is to raise awareness, educate and involve people more in political and social decision-making processes,” she said.
Established in 1955, KAS operates in more than 120 countries, supporting democracy, the rule of law, and social-market economy. In Ghana, its programmes date back to 1966, evolving from agricultural and educational support to today’s emphasis on civic education and democratic participation.
The WACEE ’25, organised by the Delegation of German Industry and Commerce in Ghana (AHK Ghana) under the theme “Greener Solutions, Stronger Economy,” brings together stakeholders in renewable energy, circular economy, and waste management.
