Africa-Press – Ghana. Mr Benard Ahiafor, the Chairman of Parliament’s Appointments Committee, has presented the Committee’s report on the vetting of Chief Justice nominee, Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, recommending his approval by a majority decision.

The vetting of the Chief Justice nominee was held on Monday, November 10, 2025.

In his presentation to the House on Thursday, Mr. Ahiafor commended the nominee for demonstrating outstanding competence, deep knowledge of the law, and a firm grasp of judicial ethics.

He noted that Justice Baffoe-Bonnie responded to all questions posed during the vetting process with professionalism, clarity, intellectual rigour, and judicial integrity befitting the highest court of the land.

Mr. Ahiafor, who also serves as the Member of Parliament for Akatsi South, emphasised that the nominee possessed the requisite academic qualifications, judicial temperament, and integrity to hold the esteemed office of Chief Justice.

He stressed that these qualities made Justice Baffoe-Bonnie well-suited to lead the judiciary and safeguard the independence of the courts.

The Committee’s report recommended that Parliament approved the nominee, paving the way for Justice Baffoe-Bonnie’s formal appointment as the next Chief Justice of Ghana.

The Minority Caucus on the Committee abstained from vetting the Chief Justice nominee and rejected his nomination because of “political reasons”.
