Africa-Press – Ghana. Mr Kofi Iddie Adams, Ghana’s Minister of Sports and Recreation, on Tuesday inaugurated a Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the CAVB Zone III Volleyball Club Championship, urging members to deliver a well-planned event that benefits the country.
Members of the LOC include Dr Austin W. Luguterah (Chairman), Mr Emmanuel Quainoo (Secretary), Mr Benard Mornah (Ex-Officio Member) and Mr Bawa Iddrisu (Technical Director), among others.
The championship, scheduled for March 1–8, 2026, will be held in Accra in partnership with the Ghana Volleyball Federation and Kalibi Volleyball Club.
The championship, which is themed “Uniting West Africa Through Volleyball Excellence”, would witness clubs from eight West African countries compete for laurels.
Speaking at the inauguration of the LOC, Mr Adams urged the committee to make the championship a memorable one so that it would revitalise the sport on the local scene.
“The opportunity to host this championship presents an opportunity for us to attach more importance to other sports and give them the needed publicity. We have entrusted the LOC to plan and execute this tournament very well so that by the time it is over, those who have not heard of volleyball will begin to have conversations about it,” he said.
The Sports Minister urged them to work efficiently with their limited resources and was confident that the renowned personalities named on the committee would make the tournament a resounding success.
He called on the committee to work efficiently with limited resources and expressed confidence in its members while appealing to Corporate Ghana to support the championship.
Dr Lugeterah, chair of the LOC, said the inauguration marked a significant step in advancing volleyball in Ghana and the sub-region.
“We are committed to delivering a championship that reflects the excellence, discipline and unity that volleyball represents,” Dr Lugeterah said.
He said the tournament would highlight Ghana’s organisational capacity and promote regional sports diplomacy, youth development and gender equity.
“Our goal is to set a benchmark in professionalism, transparency and innovation in event management,” he added.
