Africa-Press – Ghana. The United Cadres Front (UCF) has held an orientation workshop for Regional Young Cadres Coordinators and Secretaries from across the country in Tadzewu.
The orientation aimed at strengthening the capacity of young cadres and clarifying their roles within the organisation and the NDC party.
Mr Shine Gavey, National Chairman of the UCF, said the training was necessary to help young cadres understand their identity, responsibilities and the relationship between the UCF and the party.
He explained that although all cadres were party members, not every party member is a cadre, hence the need for clarity in collaboration and structure.
“We organised this orientation so that the young cadres know who they are, the positions they occupy and how to work in harmony with party structures,” he said.
“We have received complaints that the party is sometimes unfriendly to cadres or restricts their programmes. This workshop will help them understand how to engage constructively.”
Mr Gavey admitted that many cadres felt neglected after electoral victories, despite their heavy involvement in campaigns.
“It is true, after elections, everything goes to the party hierarchy and allies like us are left out,” he noted.
“We helped in the execution of the victory agenda, yet from January to December, nothing has been seen. We urge the party and government to look back at the people who worked at the grassroots.”
He urged cadres to remain patient as leadership continued to advocate for their inclusion in available opportunities, while encouraging them to take advantage of emerging government programmes for self-development.
Mr Gavey also appealed for financial, material and legal support for UCF activities, stressing the need for official integration of cadres into party structures, with representation from national to grassroots levels and voting rights at congresses.
“If we acknowledge that cadres are the foundation of the NDC party, then they must be part of the party’s integral organs,” he said.
Madam Priscilla Mercy Nketia Akromah, National Women’s Coordinator of the UCF, said unity among cadres has improved after years of division.
She encouraged women cadres to prepare for opportunities under government initiatives such as the 24-hour economy.
“We can’t all get appointments, but we can organise ourselves through cooperatives so that every woman has something to do,” she stated.
Ms Ophelia Asante Antwi, Bono Regional Young Cadres Coordinator, said her understanding of cadreship has deepened since joining, contrary to the perception that cadres were neglected.
She described cadres as the ideological root of the party, saying their values and discipline were necessary for rebuilding and strengthening the movement.
“The ideology must go down to the grassroots. Young people must understand that cadreship is not about what you gain immediately but the impact and legacy you contribute,” she explained.
She called for full integration of cadres into party structures, saying the feeling of neglect discourages many young people.
“Without cadres, the party cannot go far. We hold the foundation. So we plead for integration and recognition,” she said.
Ms Antwi urged young cadres not to wait for appointments but to take initiative, organise locally, support party activities and mobilise their communities.
