Africa-Press – Ghana. University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) has held a justify your inclusion exercise to select athletes for 28th Ghana Universities Sports Association (GUSA) Cross Country and Mini Games at Somanya.

The event, held at UHAS’s main campus at Sokode-Lokoe in Ho, drew dozens of student athletes competing for selection into the university’s contingent. The exercise sought to identify the most resilient and skilled performers capable of representing the university on the national stage.

Participants ran a challenging 12-kilometre course that tested their endurance, speed, and mental toughness. The Sports Unit’s technical team—Mr. Evans Afesi, Mr. Emmanuel Atiso, and Mr. David Quainoo—supervised the event, focusing on timing accuracy, physical fitness, and performance consistency.

Speaking after the exercise, Professor Judith A. Anaman, Dean of Students, commended the athletes for their energy and discipline.

She said their efforts reflected the university’s commitment to promoting sports as part of holistic education.

“We are proud of your determination and teamwork,” she said.

“Management will continue to provide the needed support to help you excel at this year’s GUSA Games.”

The selected athletes have since entered residential camping to undergo advanced training and tactical preparation ahead of the national competition.

Coaches are intensifying drills in endurance, coordination, and team strategy to ensure readiness for the games.

According to the Sports Unit, the justification exercise forms part of efforts to enhance UHAS’s sporting competitiveness while promoting inclusivity and student participation in athletics.

In recent years, UHAS has made steady progress in university-level sports, earning recognition for its strong showings in cross country and team events.

The institution continues to strengthen its sporting infrastructure and training systems to sustain this momentum.

As the 2025 GUSA Games approach, UHAS athletes remain optimistic and united in their goal to make a mark at the competition while upholding the university’s values of discipline, excellence, and teamwork.
