Two West African Countries Commit to Develop Cerebral Palsy Football

Africa-Press – Ghana. Ghana and Togo have pledged to develop and promote Cerebral Palsy (CP) Sports in the West African region and beyond.

CP football is a seven-side adaptation of association football for athletes with cerebral palsy or other disorders.

As part of activities to mark Togo’s 65th Independence anniversary, Mr. Emmanuel Akpali, the President of the Ayawaso Cerebral Palsy Football Club, was invited to Lome, the Togolese capital for engagements.

Speaking after the meeting at the Olympic Stadium Mr. Akpali described the discussions as a fruitful one.

He said plans were underway to extend collaboration to other African countries by organisaing competitions.

He said, team Ghana would be playing two international friendlies with Togo and Nigeria next month.

He said CP football has a great future because the players want to play and create sports and entertainment for themselves and their fans.

He said, “the benefits will be enormous if we start and involve other nations, for now Ghana and Togo are negotiating on how to create opportunities for the citizens and to involve the disabled in the sport.”

Reflecting on his journey, he said that he has been working behind the scenes for the past six years to support Ayawaso CP Football Club.

He also participated in the international seminars and training courses to boost his skills.

He called on the government, non-governmental organizations, corporate bodies, individuals to support.
