Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>The people of Keta municipality of the Volta Region have hailed President John Dramani Mahama for prioritising major road infrastructure projects in the Volta Region under his ambitious Big Push programme.<\/b><\/p>\n

The initiative, which was expected to take 24 months to complete, was aimed to significantly enhance connectivity and stimulate economic growth in various communities that would benefit from the project in the Keta Municipality.<\/p>\n

Some key road projects to impact Keta and the broader Volta Region in the Big Push programme include rehabilitation of Ho to Kpetoe road, Kpetoe, Afiadenyigba to Penyi road, and rehabilitation of Penyi \u2013 Aflao Road, which were expected to improve local and regional connectivity.<\/p>\n

Mr. John Wemasenu, a resident of Vui, a suburb of Keta, told, that President Mahama\u2019s Big Push programme focused on road infrastructure as a catalyst for boosting economic activities, improving livelihoods, and creating jobs.<\/p>\n

\u201cI learnt that a total of GH\u20b514 billion was allocated for the initiative, and this clearly underscored the commitment by government to transformative infrastructure development,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He said that President Mahama\u2019s assurances and promises to contractors to receive prompt payment within two weeks of presentation of their certificates to enable avoid project delay of work was commendable while the funding for the Big Push programme would utilise the country\u2019s oil and gold revenues.<\/p>\n

He anticipated that the road projects, especially rehabilitation of Anlo-Afiadenyigba to Penyi road would have a transformative impact on Keta Municipality to enhance access to markets, healthcare, and education.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou see, improvement of roads in our area here are very crucial for farmers and traders in the municipality to facilitate movement of goods and services to and from the market on time,\u201d Mr. Wemasenu said.<\/p>\n

Mr. Christopher Agbeke, a motorcyclist on the Anlo-Afiadenyigba to Weta route, said that the President\u2019s approach to rehabilitate roads in various communities has reflected on his commitment to balance development in the rural and urban areas.<\/p>\n

He said addressing infrastructure gaps in various regions through road constructions would enable the government to spur socio-economic growth across the country including Keta in the Volta Region.<\/p>\n

Mr. Agbeke explained that the infrastructure push was linked to job creation strategy and was expected to stimulate demand across various construction sectors, generate employment for engineers, artisans, and labourers and improve market access.<\/p>\n

Mr. Wisdom Seade, the Keta Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), has also urged the public to collaborate and assist the constructor with smooth and successful work when the activities commence.<\/p>\n

Some other residents of Keta municipality, thepress spoke with expressed excitement about the Big Push Programme which would include roads in communities such as Aborlove-Nolopi, Anyako and Atiavi among others in the area.<\/p>\n

They expressed gratitude to President Mahama for focusing on infrastructure needs of Volta region with hope that the roads when improved would serve as a catalyze that would broaden development and enhance the quality of life.<\/p>\n

The press gathered that the Big Push programme encompassed 32 road infrastructure projects nationwide with specific allocations targeting critical routes after the Minister of Finance Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson highlighted these projects in the 2025 Mid-Year Fiscal Policy Review.<\/p>\n

President Mahama has also criticised the previous administration, led by former President Nana Addo, for mismanaging the country\u2019s road sector which led to a backlog of stalled projects and unpaid contractor bills that exceeded GH\u20b520 billion.<\/p>\n
