Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>Koforidua, Nov 15- The first multi-stakeholder dialogue on Ghana\u2019s Labour Migration Information System (LMIS), has been held in Koforidua in the Eastern Region, bringing together 52 officials from state and non-state institutions to dialogue on establishing LMIS.<\/p>\n

The two-day meeting was part of an ongoing collaboration between GIZ Programme Migration & Diaspora (PMD) working on behalf of the German government, and Ghana\u2019s Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations, on the setting up of a Labour Migration Information System in Ghana.<\/p>\n

The collaboration supports the implementation of Ghana\u2019s National Labour Migration Policy, which include the establishment of a comprehensive and integrated LMIS for all stakeholders.<\/p>\n

Mina Kwansima Okuru, Communications Manager for Global Programmes Migration for Development and Migration & Diaspora at GIZ in a statement to the Ghana News Agency said presentations were made bordered on the rationale for an Integrated Labour Migration Platform in Ghana.<\/p>\n

They were interlaced with guided discussions on the Data and System Usage of Labour Department and other key stakeholders including the Ghana Immigration Service, Attorney General\u2019s Office and Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection; Ghana Employers Association and IOM Ghana, Ghana Statistical Service as well as Trade Union Congress.<\/p>\n

The Chief Director of the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations, Mr Horen Quashigah, expressed gratitude to participants for their commitment towards the establishment of a data management system for labour migration for Ghana. He also expressed the ministry\u2019s commitment to working with all stakeholders to ensure its success.<\/p>\n

Mr Benjamin Woesten, Head of Migration Projects in GIZ Ghana and Head of the Ghanaian-German Centre for Jobs, Migration and Reintegration said, \u201cA Labour Market information system anywhere is critical to the success of better engaging and supporting the inclusion of and proper management of labour migration information.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe should be able to have a \u201cone-stop-shop\u201d for information related to labour migration no matter which aspect of it we are dealing with-whether it\u2019s labour issues, legal issues, psychosocial issues, immigration issues, business, etc.<\/p>\n

\u201cMigration statistics or not, policy will be made; but policies that are anchored on statistics leads to better policy making and better decision making.\u201d<\/p>\n

As part of the ongoing collaboration between GIZ PMD and Ghana\u2019s Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations, the statement said, there would be a second Multi-Stakeholder Dialogue on the Labour Migration Information System in the future, where a final report will be validated by the stakeholders.<\/p>\n
