Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>Ave-Dakpa (VR), Nov. 15- Mr Paul Agbesi Ayrah, the District Chief Executive (DCE) nominee for the Akatsi North District, has for the second time, failed to obtain the needed two-thirds majority required to enable him to become District Chief Executive(DCE) for the area.<\/p>\n

The second confirmation exercise held on Monday, November 15 at the Assembly hall saw members of the Assembly giving the nominee 61.1 per cent after officials of the Electoral Commission (EC) had counted the votes.<\/p>\n

Out of the 18 members of the Assembly, including government appointees and elected, 11 voted yes with 7 voting against the total votes cast. Mr Ayrah, a 52-year-old graduate teacher and Human Rights Activist was nominated by President Akuffo Addo after two failed attempts on the part of the first nominee, Mr Prosper Patu.<\/p>\n

Mr Ayrah is also the communication officer of the Akatsi North NPP and is also the Secretary to the Akatsi North Private School Owners Association. The result requires a new nomination or renomination from the President.<\/p>\n

The Akatsi North District was part of five others in the Volta region which were created by the late President John Evans Atta Mills under Legislative Instrument (LI) 2161 of March 2012.<\/p>\n

Curved out of the then Akatsi District, the Akatsi North Assembly was officially inaugurated on June 28, 2012, with Mr James Gunu holding the office as the first DCE till 2016 under the National Democratic Congress (NDC) regime.<\/p>\n

Dr Prince Sodoke Amuzu succeeded Mr Gunu after the New Patriotic Party (NPP) took over power after the 2016 general elections. The issue of a DCE rejection was the first of its kind since its inception. The District is located in the southeast part of the Volta Region and has Ave Dakpa as its capital town.<\/p>\n
