Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>Tema, Nov. 27, GNA \u2013 The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has called for community watchdogs to help police transformers as thieves in recent times have been stealing vital parts.<\/p>\n

Ms Sakyiwaa Mensah, ECG Tema Regional Public Relations Officer (PRO) explained that any unscheduled interruption in power supplies affects both industrial and domestic customers negatively, \u201cin view of this, we must all police ECG properties within our communities at all times\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cECG urgently needs the public to serve as a watchdog to help prevent recalcitrant individuals from causing loss to the company\u2019s properties, we must all be vigilant at all times and if in doubt challenge personalities around ECG installations\u201d.<\/p>\n

Ms Mensah stated at the eighth edition of the monthly \u201cStakeholder Engagement and Workers Appreciation Day,\u201d a seminar organised by the Tema Regional Office of the Ghana News Agency. The GNA Tema Stakeholder Engagement is a platform rolled out for state and non-state actors to address national issues.<\/p>\n

Speaking on the topic: “Fuse Theft – Transformer Vandalism and Meter Movement: Its consequences on the Network,\u201d Ms Mensah said ECG has been having some challenges of theft and vandalism especially in the Tema Region.<\/p>\n

She admitted that the customers were suffering and the work could not have been done alone by the company hence the need for the public to help protect the properties.<\/p>\n

Mr Francis Ameyibor, GNA Tema Regional Manager explained that the platform forms part of a broader objective of the Agency towards revamping its operations.<\/p>\n

He said under the Management of Mr Albert Kofi Owusu the agency has embarked on a process of revamping its newsgathering operations, towards the production of digital news content and the acquisition of modern digital equipment to aid speedy transmission of stories from the field.<\/p>\n

He said GNA was poised to be the source of news on Ghana\u2019s investment and industrialization drive, economic and tourism potential through story exchanges with its international partners, and Tema serving as a major industrial city, \u201cTema GNA Platform,\u201d is critical as we move forward.<\/p>\n

Mr Ameyibor, said, \u201c GNA-Tema Office found the need to engage stakeholders to help educate the population as part of our general contribution to good governance\u201d.<\/p>\n
