{"id":117094,"date":"2026-04-14T10:43:28","date_gmt":"2026-04-14T10:43:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/ghana\/uncategorized\/government-insensitivity-to-visually-impaired-cocoa-farmer"},"modified":"2026-04-14T11:03:39","modified_gmt":"2026-04-14T11:03:39","slug":"government-insensitivity-to-visually-impaired-cocoa-farmer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/ghana\/all-news\/government-insensitivity-to-visually-impaired-cocoa-farmer","title":{"rendered":"Government Insensitivity to Visually Impaired Cocoa Farmer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Ghana. <\/strong><\/span><b>Mr Stevis Kwame Owusu, a visually impaired cocoa farmer at Akroforo in the Berekum Municipality of the Bono Region has described the government as \u2018insensitive\u2019 to the plight of cocoa farmers.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>He appealed for parliament intervention for the government to pay all their arrears and to enhance their livelihoods and sustain the farmers in the cocoa business.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Owusu made the appeal when the Minority Caucus in Parliament visited and interacted with the cocoa farmers in the area.<\/p>\n<p>He expressed his frustrations, regretting that presently he could not afford his medical bills, pay his children school fees and provide for the upkeep of his family.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Owusu said his inherited cocoa farm remained the only source of income for his family, lamenting that the government\u2019s inability to pay the cocoa farmers had brought serious economic hardship to his family.<\/p>\n<p>Touched by his predicament and that of other farmers who expressed similar sentiments, Mr Ayeh Asafo-Adjei, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Bosome Freho who led the caucus to the area gave the assurance that the MPs would amplify their concerns in ensuring that the government settle them.<\/p>\n<p>He said that was why the MPs were in the area just to listen to the concerns of the farmers and push the government to pay them and to alleviate their plights.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Asafo-Adjei urged the farmers to remain calm, pledging the MPs dedication to ensure that the livelihoods of the cocoa farmers in the country were enhanced.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <span style=\"color: #ff6600\">Ghana<\/span> Follow <span style=\"color: #ff6600\">Africa-Press<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Ghana.
