Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong> <\/span>based electoral college system used by political parties in Ghana to elect Presidential or parliamentary candidates has been declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court.<\/b><\/p>\n

It noted that the system bread corruption and inducement.<\/p>\n

The Court in a 5-2 decision ruled that all members of political parties entitled to vote in selecting candidates.<\/p>\n

The apex court held that the Electoral Commission has the responsibility of ensuring that election held internally should conform to the Constitution.<\/p>\n

It therefore declared that not later than one year from today, political parties must establish a system for selecting presidential and parliamentary candidates that would enable all registered members in good standing , as determined by the party to vote.<\/p>\n

It has fixed August 5, 2026, to make available its full reasons.<\/p>\n

The Supreme Court ruling comes after Professor Frimpong Boateng, a heart surgeon, Dr Nyaho Nyaho Tamakloe, a member of the New Patriotic Party and Dr Christine Amoako-Nuamah proceeded to to the apex court over the current delegates voting to elect Presidential and Parliamentary elections.<\/p>\n

The three plaintiffs held that the current voting rights for delegates was inconsistent with the Constitution.<\/p>\n

According to them the voting process only made way for privileged minority thereby ignoring ordinary members.<\/p>\n
