Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>Accra, Dec.10, GNA \u2013 Mr Kofi Asare, Executive Director of Africa Education Watch, has called for the analysis of students\u2019 performance in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE)on regional and district basis, saying, national averages looked good but misleading.<\/p>\n

\u201cNational averages look good but potentially misleading without conducting a regional and district analysis to find out how many students are passing from Lambuise SHS, Buipe SHS, Takoo SHS, etc., which have a history of zero per cent WASSCE pass rates,\u201d he said in an interview with the Ghana News Agency.<\/p>\n

Mr Asare said it would be better for WAEC to base the performance of students on regions and districts to provide equitable distribution of learning outcomes.<\/p>\n

He said the number of withheld results confirmed allegations of widespread and institutionalised malpractices in schools. \u201cWhile a lot of the 2021 malpractices fell through the cracks due to WAEC\u2019s inertia towards invigilation, a few were caught in the web,\u201d he indicated.<\/p>\n

He said the withholding of 3667 results of candidates as well as scripts of candidates in 194 schools posed a question on the credibility of the examinations.<\/p>\n

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) this week released the provisional results of candidates who sat for the 2021 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates in Ghana.<\/p>\n

WAEC, in a statement, said it would make available login details to Heads of school for candidates to print the statement of their results. A total of 446,352 candidates, made up of 221,439 males and 224,913 females from 965 schools registered for the examination, representing an 18.8 per cent increase in the 2020 figure of 375,763.<\/p>\n
