Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>Nkroful (W\/R), Dec. 16, GNA- A 10-Member Executive of the National Association of Nzema Students ( NANS) has been sworn into office to steer the affairs of the group. The executives, who would be in office for one year, have Mr Robert Amonle Yankey as President and Miss Millicent Afful Benee as Vice-President.<\/p>\n

Other members are Miss Barbara Joana Assuah as secretary, Michael Nash Cobbinah as Deputy Secretary, Mr Samuel Ackah Blay as Organizer, Matthew Berko as Deputy Organizer and Rebecca Kwasi as Women’s Commissioner.<\/p>\n

The rest are Millicent Mensah as Deputy Women’s Commissioner, James Ampadu as Financial Secretary, Christian Cudjoe as Public Relations Officer and Mr Clement Blay as Patron member.<\/p>\n

Among its terms of reference, the executives have been tasked to rally Nzema Students in educational campuses together and seek their interest at all times to make the association more vibrant.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the swearing-in, Mr Clement Blay advised the students to help rid the environment of filth, especially plastic waste, which now competed with fishes in the sea. He also attributed the shortage of fish in coastal communities to the recent invasion of the Seaweeds along the west coast of Ghana.<\/p>\n

This, he said, coupled with other anti-human activities are degrading the environment and charged the students to volunteer in Community Affairs to rid the environment of filth.<\/p>\n

Mr Blay also asked Non-Governmental Organizations(NGOs) and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to be more sanitation conscious and stressed the need for society to go back to the good old days of communal labour.<\/p>\n

He identified the lack of toilet facilities and availability of refuse dumps as breeding grounds for Environmental pollution and urged sachet water companies to take steps to rid the environment of filth. He said bad sanitation was a setback to development and stressed the need to bring back “Town Councils” to ensure sanitation sustainability.<\/p>\n

Speaking on the role of traditional rulers in curbing financial problems of the Nzema students, the Chief of Ambainu, Nana Nyamekeh Fofole called on agents such as parents, guardians, the government, traditional rulers and institutions of learning to help address the problem.<\/p>\n

Nana Fofole appealed to traditional authorities to contribute towards the education and training of the youth in the area to enhance development. The President of NANS, Mr Robert Amonle Yankey, promised to work with all executives and stakeholders to push the association forward.<\/p>\n

He called for initiatives to help members with difficulties in paying their fees. Mr.Amonle Yankey suggested the decentralization of the Association at the senior and junior high level, which would help improve the quality of the association to achieve its mandate.<\/p>\n
