{"id":1257,"date":"2019-08-14T15:39:12","date_gmt":"2019-08-14T15:39:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/ghana\/?p=1257"},"modified":"2019-08-14T15:39:12","modified_gmt":"2019-08-14T15:39:12","slug":"ghanas-rating-to-suffer-if-businesses-do-not-uphold-integrity-gii","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/ghana\/all-news\/ghanas-rating-to-suffer-if-businesses-do-not-uphold-integrity-gii","title":{"rendered":"Ghana\u2019s rating to suffer if businesses do not uphold integrity \u2013 GII"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Programmes Manager of the Ghana Integrity Initiative, Mary Awelana Addah<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Programmes Manager of the Ghana Integrity Initiative has stressed the need for integrity in business as a means to shore up a country\u2019s anti-corruption rating internationally.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to Joy FM on Wednesday, Mary Awelana Addah, said the integrity in business ensures fairness as it \u201ccreates an atmosphere where all people compete fairly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>More than that, she added that businesses with integrity are guaranteed slots on the international arena, where businesses are competitive and sanctions swiftly applied to companies defaulting on integrity.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs. Addah further held that integrity in business also affects the ratings of the country they operate from in the World Bank\u2019s Corruption Perception Index.<\/p>\n<p>The 2018 Corruption Perception Index (CPI) score shows that Ghana\u2019s performance improved by one point from its 2017 score of 40.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis score is a positive departure from the continuous drop the country has been experiencing since the year 2015,\u201d a release by the Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII) stated.<\/p>\n<p>The 2018 CPI scores Ghana 41 out of 100 and ranks the country 78 out of 180 countries included in the index.<\/p>\n<p>This trickles down to how investors judge the country as a preferred destination for doing business or otherwise, as it is expensive doing business in a corruption-prone environment.<\/p>\n<p>Suggesting a way forward, the Programmes Manager of the Ghana Integrity Initiative said: \u201cPeople must have a responsibility to report corruption.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But most importantly \u201cincentivizing people who do well in upholding integrity is the best approach to fighting corruption.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Programmes Manager of the Ghana Integrity Initiative, Mary Awelana Addah The Programmes Manager of the Ghana Integrity Initiative has stressed the need for integrity in business as a means to shore up a country\u2019s anti-corruption rating internationally.
