Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>Accra, Dec.22- Mr Samuel Abu Jinapor, the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, has pledged his continuous support to the press corps of the Ministry, through training and re-training, to make them effective and professional.<\/p>\n

The media has been integral in the effective implementation of government policies, hence the need to support them to enhance their work, he said. The Minister gave the assurance at a soir\u00e9e organised for the Ministry\u2019s press corps in Accra.<\/p>\n

He said the media had been critical in disseminating programmes of the Ministry as well as providing the necessary feedback to government and implementors.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe media is the oxygen of governance. Whatever work the government does, if the media does not take it to Ghanaians, the people won\u2019t know the work being done,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

“For instance, people have to understand government policy on small-scale mining. Understanding the policy is as important as the implementation of the policy.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s why the media is crucial to the work we do.\u201d Mr Jinapor reiterated his determination to improve the relations with the media and ensure improvement in their welfare.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will continue to work together both from a professional and personal level. I am concerned about your welfare and know that in me, you have a strong partner and a friend,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Mr Benito Owusu-Bio, a Deputy Minister in charge of Forestry, expressed appreciation to the media, saying; “You have been our backbone in the work that we do. You have been championing all that we do and ensuring that Ghana gets to know.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI believe it is a good thing that at the end of the year, we meet you and let them know how appreciative we are of your work. We thank you very much and we are also very proud of you.” The Vice Dean of the Press Corps, Mr Godwill Arthur-Mensah, commended the Ministry for sustaining the cordial relations over the years.<\/p>\n

He said the media, as a partner to the Ministry, would support in carrying out strategies and plans aimed at clamping down on illegalities in the sector including illegal mining, popularly known as \u2018galamsey.\u2019<\/p>\n

He applauded the Minister for leading the fight against galamsey and intensifying efforts at addressing issues in the lands and natural resources sector.<\/p>\n

“We will praise the Ministry when it is performing well and criticise it constructively when necessary. In all, we will work as partners for the good of our dear nation\u201d Mr Arthur-Mensah said. Present at the soir\u00e9e was the Deputy Minister in charge of Mines, Mr George Mireku Duker, and some directors of the Ministry.<\/p>\n
