Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>New York, Dec 23, (tca\/dpa\/GNA) – James Franco has admitted to sleeping with women in his acting school, at last addressing allegations that surfaced in 2018.<\/p>\n

The actor\u2019s admission came during an interview on SiriusXM\u2019s \u201cThe Jess Cagle Podcast,\u201d nearly four years after five women, including four of his students, claimed to the Los Angeles Times that Franco had been exploitative or acted inappropriately.<\/p>\n

\u201cOver the course of my teaching, I did sleep with students, and that was wrong,\u201d Franco told podcast host Jess Cagle in preview clips released Wednesday.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut like I said, it\u2019s not why I started the school and I wasn\u2019t the person that selected the people to be in the class. So it wasn\u2019t a master plan on my part, but yes, there were certain instances where, you know what, I was in a consensual thing with a student, and I shouldn\u2019t have been.\u201d<\/p>\n

Asked how he wasn\u2019t aware that sleeping with students would create a power imbalance, Franco reiterated that he felt everything was OK at the time as long as the encounters were consensual. The actor, 43, also claimed he never slept with a student in his \u201cSex Scenes\u201d master class, a course he said was inaccurately named.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt should have been called, you know, \u2018Contemporary Romance\u2019 or something like that,\u201d Franco said. \u201cIt was a class where they did scenes about whatever their romance is, what they go through as young people. So meeting people on dating apps, or breakups, or just a bad date, stuff like that. That\u2019s what was being done in that class. It was not sex scenes.\u201d<\/p>\n

Franco who received an Oscar nomination for 2010\u2032s \u201c127 Hours,\u201d founded his since-shuttered Studio 4 drama school in New York and Los Angeles in 2014.<\/p>\n

Earlier this year, he reached a $2.2 million settlement for a lawsuit filed in 2019 by former students Sarah Tither-Kaplan and Toni Gaal, who claimed Franco \u201csought to create a pipeline of young women, who were subjected to his personal and professional sexual exploitation in the name of education.\u201d<\/p>\n

During his interview with Cagle, which will air Thursday in its entirety, the \u201cDisaster Artist\u201d star said he battled sex addiction after becoming sober following alcohol issues.<\/p>\n

\u201cAttention from women, success with women also became a huge source of validation for me,\u201d Franco said. \u201cThe problem with that is, like, I\u2019m sure you can guess, like any sort of drug or anything, there\u2019s never enough.\u201d<\/p>\n

Franco claimed he has \u201cbeen doing a lot of work\u201d in the years since the allegations against him emerged. \u201cI\u2019ve really used my recovery background to kind of start examining this,\u201d Franco said, \u201cand changing who I was.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Golden Globe winner said he frequently cheated on his girlfriends before beginning his relationship with current partner Isabel Pakzad. He described himself as previously being \u201cblind\u201d to power dynamics and the feelings of other people.<\/p>\n

\u201cI stayed sober from alcohol all that time, and I went to meetings all that time,\u201d Franco said. \u201cI even tried to, you know, sponsor other people, and so in my head, it was like, \u2018Oh, I\u2019m sober. I\u2019m living a spiritual life.\u2019 Where on the side, I\u2019m acting out now in all these other ways, and I couldn\u2019t see it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Earlier this year, Seth Rogen \u2014 who worked with Franco on comedy films including \u201cThis Is the End,\u201d \u201cPineapple Express\u201d and \u201cThe Interview\u201d, said he has no plans for another collaboration. Franco confirmed that to Cagle, but said he loves Rogen and \u201cdidn\u2019t have one fight\u201d with the filmmaker in 20 years.<\/p>\n

\u201dHe was my absolute closest work friend, collaborator,\u201d Franco said. \u201cWe just jelled. And what he said is true, you know, we aren\u2019t working together right now and we don\u2019t have any plans to work together. Of course it was hurtful, in context, but I get it. He had to answer for me, because I was silent.\u201d<\/p>\n
