Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>The Ahanta West Municipal Assembly (AWMA) has appealed to development-oriented organisations to assist it to provide potable water for residents in the Municipality.<\/p>\n

Mr John Agyare, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) who made the appeal, said the Assembly could no longer rely on Government resources alone to tackle the water problems of the Municipality.<\/p>\n

He lamented that access to potable water remained a major challenge in the Municipality as a good number of its residents could not access portable water.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor me, we need to sell our District to organisations and institutions in the water sector for support so that we can achieve a complete safe water coverage as early as possible”, the MCE said in an interview with the Ghana News Agency.<\/p>\n

He said the Assembly in the past made efforts to provide boreholes to some rural communities in the Municipality. He mentioned that procurement processes had been completed for the provision of two mechanized boreholes with overhead tanks, one at the Ankyernyin MA Basic School and the other at Upper Dixcove.<\/p>\n

Mr Agyare also expressed worry about the increasing waste generation in the Municipality which was compounding waste management issues. He said the Assembly in collaboration with Zoomlion Ghana Ltd was doing the best possible to deal with the sanitation situation.<\/p>\n

A major challenge he mentioned, however, was the inadequate number of skip refuse containers and announced that procurement processes had been completed for the procurement of six additional skip containers to serve especially, the Agona-Nkwanta Market and other high waste generating areas.<\/p>\n

On health, he said efforts were being made to get as many Community Health Planning Service (CHPS) Compounds as possible to ensure that health care was brought to the doorsteps of the people.<\/p>\n

He noted that there were challenges regarding access to quality health care even though some efforts had been made to provide CHP Compounds in some communities.<\/p>\n

Mr Agyare reminded the people that the COVID-19 pandemic was still around and stressed the need for all to continue to observe the safety protocols. He further encouraged staff of the Assembly and all the residents of the Municipality to get vaccinated.<\/p>\n
