Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span> A delegation of heads of State-Owned Agencies, led by the Director-General of State Interests Governance and Accountability (SIGA), Mr Edward Boateng, has visited Appiatse to commiserate with the families of the bereaved and injured and assist the community with relief items.<\/p>\n

The team was made up of Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of the State Housing Cooperation (SHC), Volta River Authority (VRA), Ghana Ports and Habour Authority (GHPA), National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), National Lotteries Authority (NLA) and Minerals Development Fund, among others.<\/p>\n

The Appiatse Community was on Thursday, January 20, 2022, hit by a tragic explosion involving an explosive-laden truck and a motorcycle, which claimed 14 lives and rendered hundreds homeless.<\/p>\n

At a brief meeting with community leaders, Mr Boateng said, \u201cthis is a national crisis and in fulfilment of the Government pledge announced by the Vice President, we have come to assess the level of destruction to know what support will be required from us.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAs leaders who understand the importance of giving back to society, we came here today to have first-hand information to enable us to provide the necessary support for the community that has unfortunately been affected,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

For his part, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Dr Isaac Dasamani, explained the impact of the disaster to the CEOs and said the people of Appiatse had indeed suffered a catastrophe.<\/p>\n

He expressed gratitude to the Government, Corporate institutions and private individuals, including Ghana Gas, Ghana Chamber of Mines, Goldfields and the First Lady, among others, who had supported with relief items.<\/p>\n
