Africa-Press – Ghana. <\/strong><\/span>The Ghana National Petroleum Company (GNPC) Foundation, has provided support for 341 artisans drawn from across the Greater Accra Region to sit for the National Vocational Training Institute (NVTI) proficiency exams.<\/p>\n

This forms part of the 2021 edition of the Foundation\u2019s livelihood empowering program dubbed \u201cThe Skilled Artisans Project (SAP)\u201d. The SAP is aimed at training and equipping young artisans across Ghana, with vocational skills, and tools needed to improve their livelihoods and economic well-being.<\/p>\n

The examination which started on Tuesday, February 1, 2022, at various NVTI designated centers across the region ended on Friday, February 4, 2022. It is also aimed at ensuring that artisans meet the standardization requirements and qualification of their respective skill areas, and increase their suitability for job placements as well as the requisite know-how to start enterprises on their own.<\/p>\n

Dr. Dominic Eduah Executive Director of GNPC Foundation told the media in an interview that, after visiting participants during the examination, that his outfit wanted impact more lives, hence the decision to shift focused on artisans.<\/p>\n

He said his outfit wanted to train 10,000 artisans across the country, adding that, so far 4,000, had been trained and they were looking forward to reach their target.<\/p>\n

According to Dr. Eduah, they would also assist the artisans to acquire soft skill training such as book keeping, basic principles of finance, office management among others after the training.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis would help them to manage their businesses well in future\u201d he added. He commended NVTI for providing the needed support for the artisans to acquire skills in their chosen career.<\/p>\n

The 2021 SAP begun with the registration and enrollment of trainee artisans in six regions namely, Greater Accra, Eastern, Ashanti, Central, Western and Western North regions.<\/p>\n

GNPC SAP remains one of the strategies designed and implemented by the GNPC Foundation, and in collaboration, with Aseda Foundation to add value to the lives of youth artisans in Ghana.<\/p>\n

It offers them the opportunity to improve their crafts and become economically capable of catering for themselves, their families and contributing positively to society. Artisans enrolled in the program in the Eastern and Ashanti Regions are expected to also benefit from same in the coming months.<\/p>\n
